Montessori Preschool Education
Montessori is an approach to education discovered by Dr. Maria Montessori that respectfully supports each child's individual physical, social and cognitive development. The Montessori teacher and the prepared environment guide children in gaining experiences and learning skills for success in academic learning and character development.
The Prepared Environment
In a nurturing and stimulating environment, under the guidance of a competent and creative Montessori teacher, the child progresses at his or her own pace, caring for the environment (including plants and animals), working with the Montessori educational materials, and interacting collaboratively with other children.
The Montessori Teacher
The teacher serves as facilitator and guide in the prepared environment and brings it to life. As the dynamic link between the environment and each individual child, s/he helps the children discover abstract concepts through concrete experiences to support learning and their development of independence, responsibility, self-discipline and respect for others.
